Introduction:
There are many reasons for this project, but above all: To archive rare, promo exclusive and unavailable tracks so that fans can listen to what they may never come across. This compilation is an attempt to collect all the tracks that are unreleased, limited to a specific country, were not rereleased on the EBX Boxed Sets, limited to promo formats and/or are so rare it hurts.
Piracy is lame, but so is keeping fans from enjoying obscure material. This is a true fan-based labour of love project: No profit is being made from the production of this release.
If you EVER get the chance and come across an original release for any of the tracks included in this compilation, please do the right thing and buy it proper.
All of the tracks have been prefaced with a code. They indicate the track has come from one of 3 sources:
(VI) Recorded from Vinyl,
(CD) Ripped from CD,
(OS) Other Source (From MP3, cassette tape, live broadcast, etc..)
Not all OS tracks are of poor quality. The intention of this archive was to obtain highest quality versions of all tracks possible, regardless of source. The fact that almost all tracks were ripped, recorded and encoded by myself means the level of quality will be far, far more consistant than a collection created out of downloaded MP3s. Some tracks were recorded by close trading friends and I can trust their judgements to give me a track of highest quality. Some other tracks, well... it's just all there was.
All vinyl tracks I record has been edited for clicks and pops by hand. No filtering was used to avoid possibly damaging the sonic quality of the tracks. One little pop left behind is better than the whole track sounding dull and swishy.
What is this?
It's pretty simple. This is an MP3 Double CD compilation. The titles below are directories on the Double CD set. Each directory contains enough tracks to fill up a standard 80 minute audio CD. If you want to burn 15 audio discs, that's YOUR job.
(Edited Note: The Bonus CD3 contained 3 additional CDs worth, the updated solo Bonus CD contained 8 additional CDs worth of material and the final DVDR collection of all the material on the 4 discs included the previously released Twelfth project: Under the Covers. I have edited this page to include the track listing for everything that was ever included. That's roughly a total of 28 Audio CDs worth of Erasure material that was offered when this title was still available.
If you ever find anyone offering this set and even worse: selling it for more than $12, tell them to fuck off. This set was only sold for $12. I put numerous disclaimers on the artwork saying that anyone who sells it for more than 12 bucks is ripping you off. You can easily find someone on the ISay mailing list who may copy this set for you for a small fee. There was approx 300 copies of this set made.)
Within each directory is a 300dpi Photoshop PSD or JPEG image that serves as "artwork" and track listing for each CD so you can print up an insert if you choose to burn audio discs out of these MP3s.
All tracks are featured on this set as 160K MP3s. Higher bitrates and alternate codecs were considered... but 192k+ MP3s filled up the discs too quickly. OGG is an excellent codec and I strongly support using it, but it simply is not widely adopted enough to justify making an entire CD out of it. As explained above, each directory equals one audio CD worth of material... and using OGG would seriously complicate this process for inexperienced computer users.
